HK Utd get off to a winning start against a tough Tholsel opposition, who provided more than a challenge for a game so early in the season. Utd with a big shake up from the last game of last season played four new signings in a bid for a good start to the new season. All the old stalwarts were present, with the only noticable absentee being Keane at centre half. Butler has also failed to make a return to the starting line up, but hopes are that he will make a return in due course. Tactically it was anyones game, as the first game of the season brings many surprises, it was give and take for the majority of the first half, before a through ball from Kelly to Beynan led to an awkward challenge which resulted in a penalty to HK. Cue the controversary, after failing in his first attempt ( hitting the butt of the post), Kelly scored on the rebound, putting HK 1-0 up. After huge debate between the Referee and the Tholsel the game resumed and a lack lusture but solid performance from Utd throughout the second half, ensured a victory on the first attempt for HK. Notable performances from O' Shea & Teehan must be commended as Utd start the season with a win. |

A some what weakened Utd team struggled to achieve their second win of the season. Many players playing out of position performed well above standard, who helped HK secure their second win in two games, to leave them sitting pretty on top of the League. The teams were very evenly matched throughout the first half, before a well worked goal by Utd lead to the games opener. A throw from Kelly was perfectely flicked on by Seba into space, which was then occupied by Moloney to score his first of the season with his weaker foot via a deflection off the Brannigan goalkeepers trailing arm. 1 - 0 at half time, but Utd had it all to do. HK spent the majority of the second half camped in their own half, as Brannigans pressed and pressed. A stalwart performance from new goalkeeper Butler installed confidence in the Utd defence. The Utd back four were outstanding throughout and the victory was well deserved. Two games, Two wins, Two clean sheets and Utd are on their way. Lets hope they can keep it up. The Utd defence soaked up pressure like a sponge and a man of the match performance from Fitzpatrick capped a tremendous result for Utd against one of the stronger teams in the league. |

On Monday night, HK Utd continued their best start to a season in the club's history with a well fought and well earned victory over division 2 big guns Matt the Millers. Utd started the game with their new formation, which has so far proved successful for team manager David Kelly. The first half proved relatively uneventful with the majority of possession going to Matt's. The turning point of the game would have to be when Matt's lost their influential player Kenny after a nasty twist of the knee left him with no option but to come off. From this point forward, Utd came more and more into the game. The introduction of Ostologue at half time strengthened Utd's cause for the remainder of the game. Clear cut chances for either side were few and far between with Butler being the busier of the two keepers. Utd's rearguard needed the support of their midfield on a couple of occasions when Matt's threatened to break the deadlock. Teehan and Kelly worked hard throughout the second half to try and break the Matt's advance. A share of the spoils seemed to be inevatable until a sweeping move by Utd in the final minutes lead to the goal that won the game, after Butler threw the ball to the feet of O'shea, a nice pass left Beynon in space to play a lovely ball in front of Moloney. He ran onto it and held the ball up close to the throw line at the edge of the 18 yard box. He then proceeded to play a fine ball accross the box where the waiting Ostologue hit the ball first time in his stride past the motionless Matt's keeper. With the goal coming so late Matt's had no chance to reply. A lucky 3 points it would seem to Utd and Matt's will be unhapy that they came away with nothing. Three 1-0's, Three wins, Three clean sheets and the top of the table position, all is well in the Utd camp ......................... ..... ........... for now. |

Utd rode their luck to secure their 4th consecutive victory in 4 games. Against one of the minnows of the league, Hk should have had more of a convincing victory. This was not the case however, as Koverto played very well and really put it up to the league leaders. The first half was more or less incident free, with neither goalkeeper having to do much. The best chance of the half was a Moloney header that went over the bar from a well delivered free kick from Beynon. Kelly highlighted the failings of the team at half time, which seemed to work as Utd pushed forward from the go in the second half. Within the first ten minutes of the second half, Utd had earned 4 corners and made 3 clear cut chances, that if it wasn't for poor finishing should have secured the 3 points at this stage. An injury to the Koverto goalkeeper stopped the game for enough time to hamper Utd's enthuastic attacking. After this they failed to reach this tempo again for the remainder of the match. Koverto were quiet on the chances front but a superb effort midway through the second half went a begging as it shaved the outside of the post. This may have been the spur that Utd needed as they pushed forward in search of the three points needed to put them back on top of the table. With ten minutes to go, O' Shea took the ball out of defence and a passage of play lead to Scanlon who placed a fine ball into the path of the oncoming Ostologue who skillfully lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to score the only goal of the game. Another 3 points and another clean sheet and the comeback of Keane to the squad after injury, all in all a good night for Utd. Next week is ubdoubtedly their biggest game of the season as they face street league champs and some former team members, the Lighthouse Bar. |

This match was always built to be a top of the table clash, lighthouse in their first astroturf season were playing with confidence after their summer Street league win. The young team came at full strength except for the loss of former Utd player and full back Michael Phelan to a cronic bout of W*****s Cramp!! Both teams made a nervous start with some good football being played. Neither keeper was tested except from range, with Butler being the busier of the two. Lighthouse were left furious in the first half when the goalkeeper Butler advanced to take down the Lighthouse striker with what looked to be a clear penalty, play on was the decision.Well into the second half,. lighthouse got a throw which was launched into the box and some slack defending lead to the substitute O' Malley poaching a goal at the near post. This well and truely looked to be enough to win the game, but Utd pushed on none the less. With only minutes to go a goal mouth scramble lead to the ball falling to the feet of Palaniandy who struck a clean shot against the butt of the post to put the Lighthouse keeper off balance, Kelly pounced to hit the rebound into the ground where it then looped under the crossbar for the equaliser. All in all a fair result for both teams with notable perfornances from Kelly, Fitzpatrick and man of the match Ger McKnight.

The less said the better about the first half of this game, where Utd played definitely their worst football of the season so far. No cohesion, no effort, no teamwork, vacant marking, poor defending & lack of conviction lead to a 1 - 0 deficit being chased by the league leaders at half time. Stern words from the manager seemed to work as Utd took to the pitch like a new team for the second half. Sustained amounts of pressure lead to several chances and corners but not a goal, that was until Man of the match Ostologue received the ball with his back to goal, controlled and turned to rifle a low shot past the keepers right hand side. Utd can count themselves lucky to have taken a point from this game and even luckier to still sit at the top of the table. |

James Hayde repayed the faith his manager had in him, with his first start of the season, by scoring a cracker early in the first half to set Utd on course for their fifth win of the season. Utd really didn't look to be stretched even though they were missing first choice goalkeeper Butler due to a finger injury sustained in training. Keane's first full game of the season strengthened the defence and the absence of the inform Ger McKnight was barely noticed. The failure of Ryan's Celtic to grasp the game lead to Utd defending on the half way line and Teehan being left in peace to recover from a hangover. Moloney sealed the win with a well taken goal form the edge of the box which beat the keeper all ends up. All in all a very good performance which leaves manager Kelly with welcome selection problems for the game against State Sreet next week. The return of Butler and McKnight and the form of Hayde and Palaniandy will see to that!. |
